Construction has begun on a new multimillion-pound care home in Mitcham – complete with its very own cinema, hair and beauty salon and café.
When finished, the Care UK home in Whitford Gardens will provide full-time residential, dementia and nursing care, as well as short-term respite care, for up to 64 older people and will create 83 jobs.
The home, which is expected to welcome the first residents in spring 2028, will include luxury facilities and en suite rooms. Secure and wheelchair-friendly landscaped outdoor spaces will include sensory gardens and seating to give residents the opportunity to spend quality time in the fresh air.
Jake Higgins, Development Project Manager for Care UK, said: “We’re excited to share that work has commenced at Mitcham’s new site, marking an exciting step towards giving local families access to modern, high-quality care closer to home.
“We’ve thought carefully about every detail – from gardens to social spaces – to help future residents lead active and fulfilling lives. It’s fantastic to see the team on site, and we’re looking forward to bringing this vision to life.”
Jack Stevenson, Senior Quantity Surveyor at Kori Construction, added: “Construction is off to a great start and we’re on track to complete the work by spring 2028.

The new Care UK home will incorporate plenty of space for leisure activities and hobbies. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
