Construction has officially begun on a new purpose-built care home for Barchester Healthcare on Lower Wokingham Road in Crowthorne, with the milestone marked by a ceremonial ground-breaking event attended by representatives from Barchester Healthcare, Kori Construction, Holden & Lee, Harris Irwin Architects, and the wider project team.
The new 60-bedroom development has been designed to provide high-quality accommodation and facilities for older people, creating a welcoming and comfortable environment that supports residents’ wellbeing, independence and quality of life.
Once complete, the home will feature spacious en-suite bedrooms, day and dining facilities, a variety of communal spaces for socialising and activities, and beautifully landscaped gardens designed to encourage residents to enjoy the outdoors in a safe and accessible setting.
The ground-breaking ceremony celebrated the official start of construction and brought together key project stakeholders to mark the beginning of what will become an important new care facility for the local community.
The scheme represents another important milestone in Kori Construction’s growing portfolio of specialist care developments and further strengthens its long-standing relationship with Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s leading care providers.

The project will also deliver significant benefits to the local community beyond the construction of the care home itself. Through Kori Construction’s Social Value Action Plan, the team has committed to creating employment opportunities, supporting skills development and engaging with local organisations throughout the build. The project has an initial target of delivering £2,206,219 in social and local economic value to the Crowthorne community over the course of the construction programme.
Construction is now underway, with the development expected to complete in Winter 2027, when the new home will welcome its first residents.
