Kori Construction has been appointed by Care UK to deliver a new purpose-built 64-bed care home in Mitcham, marking the fourth scheme delivered in partnership between the two organisations.
The project will include the demolition of the existing building on site, with works due to start shortly.
The proposed three-storey development has been carefully designed to provide high-quality specialist accommodation for older people requiring residential, nursing and dementia care, while creating a modern and welcoming environment that promotes wellbeing, comfort and community for residents.
Bedrooms will be arranged across flexible wings, and every room will benefit from an en-suite wet room bathroom, specifically designed with accessibility and safety in mind.
A range of communal amenities will be incorporated throughout the home, including a café, cinema/bar, hairdresser, lounges, dining rooms and activity rooms located on each floor. Assisted bathrooms, staff facilities, changing areas and dedicated staff lounges will also form part of the development.
Residents on the ground floor will benefit from direct access to private patio areas and landscaped gardens, creating accessible external spaces that encourage relaxation and social interaction. The wider landscaping proposals include raised planters and fully accessible footpaths throughout the site.
The architectural design features a contemporary palette of buff brick and grey cladding, with grey weatherboarding introduced to break up the building form and complement surrounding properties. Grey window frames, rainwater goods and fascias complete the scheme’s modern appearance.
Upon entering the home, residents and visitors will be welcomed into a warm entrance foyer leading directly to the reception and café area, helping to create an open and inviting atmosphere.
The development responds to an identified and growing need for specialist elderly care accommodation within the Mitcham area, particularly for older people requiring nursing and dementia care, while also supporting those who require a more assisted living environment.
In addition to delivering much-needed care provision, the development is expected to generate over £13m in social value through employment opportunities, local investment, community engagement and wider economic benefits throughout the construction and operational phases of the scheme.
Jordan Connachie, Managing Director of Kori Construction, said:
“We are delighted to have been appointed by Care UK on what will be our fourth scheme together, continuing a strong and successful partnership built on delivering high-quality care environments.
This proposed development has been thoughtfully designed around the needs of residents and the wider community, creating a modern, comfortable and safe environment that promotes independence and wellbeing for older people requiring specialist care.
As demand for high-quality elderly care accommodation continues to grow, particularly for dementia and nursing provision, we know this development will play an important role in supporting the local community in Mitcham while delivering facilities that meet modern care standards.”
